About Us
-
At Discern Genomics, our mission is to make genetic and genomic information more understandable, accessible, and supportive for individuals and families at different stages of life.
We provide research-informed genomic education with counselling-informed communication and support to help people better understand genetic information and its broader personal and family context. This may include inherited conditions, rare genetic disorders, naturally occurring genetic variation, and questions arising from scientific or clinical genomic information.
Genetic information can be complex, uncertain, and deeply personal. Questions relating to inheritance, family history, scientific uncertainty, and future implications can naturally raise reflection, stress, or emotional responses. Our role is to provide evidence-based educational support and reflective discussion to help individuals engage with this information in a clearer and more informed way.
Our approach is grounded in current scientific evidence in genomics and informed by recognised ethical principles supporting respectful, person-centred communication.
Sessions may include discussion of genetic reports, scientific literature, genomic concepts, family history questions, and emerging research relevant to topics raised by clients.
Discern Genomics is an independent, non-clinical educational service. It does not provide medical diagnosis, clinical genetic counselling, psychotherapy, treatment, or medical advice, and is not a substitute for NHS or regulated clinical genetics services.
Our aim is to support clearer understanding of genetic information, reduce unnecessary confusion, and create a calm space for reflection and informed, client-led discussion.

The Founder
Discern Genomics was founded by Dr Guan Wang, a geneticist by training with experience in human genetics research, genomics education, and counselling-informed support.
Her work brings together scientific evidence in genomics with reflective, communication-focused, and person-centred approaches that support clearer understanding of complex genetic information in a non-clinical educational setting.
